Did you know that are three field sobriety tests that are validated, or approved, by NHTSA, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration? These tests are used by law enforcement officers to determine whether a driver's BAC (Blood alcohol content or blood alcohol concentration) is at or above 0.08 percent. If these tests are properly administered and scored, they are an accurate indicator of a BAC at or over 0.08 percent in most people. These tests are not designed to detect impairment, only blood alcohol concentration. The three tests are:
    • Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (Eye) Test
    • Walk and Turn Test
    • One Leg Stand Test

Attorney William A. Young, Jr. has been through the NHTSA DWI Detection and Standard Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course, the same class law enforcement officers take on how to administer and score the standard field sobriety tests. He knows how to evaluate your DUI case and explain whether or not your tests were administered and scored properly. He knows how to use these tests to your best advantage.
